About me

I’ve lived in Powell River for 20+ years. I was born and raised in a small community on Vancouver Island, surrounded by lakes, rivers, mountains and the ocean. A wonderful place to grow up, but despite spending my formative years there it never quite felt like “home”.

As a young adult, I spent several years looking for somewhere that truly felt like home. Then, by chance, I spent a weekend in Powell River and immediately fell in love with the community. I moved here two months later, and within a day of arriving with my belongings, I knew I was “home”.

I’ve raised two children here. One is about to graduate, while the other is grown and has a child of her own. They both feel the same way about Powell River that I do. This is home. If life takes them elsewhere, I believe this will always be the place they come back to.

This is also where I met my wife and where her family lives. We are deeply rooted in the community and like nothing better than spending time with the people closest to us.

During my time in Powell River, I spent close to 15 years as an auxiliary firefighter, eventually becoming a captain and first responder instructor. Life has since taken me in another direction, but serving my community in that way has always been something I’ve been exceptionally proud of, and it led to some of the friendships I cherish the most.

I also built and operated an ice cream truck, bringing smiles to people throughout the community for six consecutive summers. The truck is no longer with us, but the memories will last a lifetime.

I spent close to 15 years working at the mill until it closed. That has been a loss felt by many, but I remain hopeful that we will come through it with a stronger future and a new vision for Powell River.

I now work for BC Hydro, designing portions of our electrical distribution grid. I feel very fortunate to be able to do the work I enjoy in the community I love.

I’m ready to take on a greater role in our community and help shape what comes next. I believe a councillor’s job is to listen carefully, consider all the information available and make sound decisions that are in the best interests of the community as a whole. That means balancing the needs of today with the needs of the future.

As a councillor you have my word that I will take the time to understand the issues, listen to the residents of Powell River and carefully consider their views before casting my vote.
